Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has openly reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President William Ruto, brushing off critics who have labelled him a “yes sir” man.

While addressing residents of Wote in Makueni Constituency on Saturday, June 14, 2025, during an Economic Empowerment initiative, Kindiki stood firm in his support for the president.

“There are people calling me ‘yes sir.’ And yes, I am. I proudly acknowledge that. I deeply respect President William Ruto not just because I serve as his deputy, but because I believe in his leadership and in serving the people of Kenya. Those who criticize me forget that it's Kenyans who entrust us with leadership,” he said.

Kindiki also highlighted key development efforts in the region, announcing the ongoing construction of 15 modern markets aimed at boosting local trade.

“These markets in Makueni County will be fully equipped with essential amenities from additional trading spaces and cold storage facilities to ICT hubs, lactation rooms, and social halls all designed to support small-scale traders,” he added.

This follows President William Ruto’s recent praise of Kindiki, whom he described as knowledgeable, experienced, and an effective deputy, remarks seen as a direct response to criticism from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in Meru on Monday, May 26, Ruto said he was pleased to have an assistant who fully understands the responsibilities of the deputy president’s office.

“He is someone who is truly helping me. You’ve seen him traveling across the country, advancing the national agenda. I’m proud to have a deputy who understands government operations, especially in areas like agriculture,” Ruto said.

He went on to commend Kindiki for his background in public service and his cooperation with Cabinet Secretaries in delivering key government projects.

“He understands what we are doing in infrastructure, education, and health, and he works hand-in-hand with the ministers to keep things moving,” the President added.

In a veiled jab at Gachagua, Ruto contrasted Kindiki’s approach to leadership, describing his current deputy as calm, inclusive, and focused unlike his predecessor, whom he accused of tribalism and hostility.
